Eat more fish to ward off kidney problems!
Nephropathy (kidney disease) is one of the complications linked to diabetes, and it represents the primary cause of kidney failure.

Researchers looked at the diets of 22,238 adults living in the city of Norwich , of which 517 were type-2 diabetics. They controlled participants' urine for the presence of albumin – one of the main blood proteins – , which is one of the symptoms of kidney disease. Under normal circumstances, urine contains no albumin whatsoever.
The results of the study were highly significant:
- an albumin level of 18% in participants who ate fish at least once a week
- an albumin level of just 4% in participants who ate fish several times a week
The protective effect would appear to increase as fish consumption increases.
