Arachidonic Acid ("AA")

AA is the most abundant fatty acid in the organism. It is produced from LA and GLA food sources. It plays a major role in the structure of cell membranes and especially in that of the brain neurones. It also has a major effect on inflammatory reactions, given that it is an important precursor of certain prostaglandins and cytokines. In excess, these inflammatory reactions are unbalanced. The AA carbon chain contains 20 carbon atoms and 4 non-saturations.
