Manufacture
CARDIOM3 is a pharmaceutical-grade oil manufactured exclusively from wild-caught fish (anchovies, sardines and tuna).
Each stage of the manufacturing of CARDIOM3 is performed according to food-processing or pharmaceutical "GMPs" (Good Manufacturing Practices) to guarantee a pharmaceutical-grade oil which complies with the ISO 9001 standards. In addition to the rigorous inspections performed during the production stages, isodisnatura commissions an independent laboratory, Oleotest NV, to undertake periodic analyses of stocks of our products to control their quality throughout their shelf life.
Shelf life
CARDIOM3 contains a protective dose of tocopherol (vitamin E) which allows the omega-3s to be kept in a biologically active state and reduces the risk of peroxidation. The presence of this antioxidant means that CARDIOM3 has a shelf life of 3 years if stored at a temperature between 15 and 25°C in a dry place.
On the other hand, exposure of the product to light and high temperatures reduces its shelf life and may damage the soft capsules. In addition to the rigorous inspections performed during the production stages, isodisnatura commissions an independent laboratory, OLEOTEST NV, to undertake periodic analyses of stocks of the CARDIOM3 product to control their quality throughout their shelf life (3 years).

Quality
An independent organization (www.consumerlabs.com) which evaluates the quality of nutritional supplements determined that more than one brand in four did not contain the quantity of ingredients indicated on the label. The concentrations provided by CARDIOM3 are ISO 9001-certified and production is performed according to "GMP" standards.
Certain products are contaminated with the pollutants which occur with unfortunate frequency in nature, such as mercury, PCBs or dioxin. The purification process which gives CARDIOM3 its exceptional concentration also permits the elimination of all the impurities generally contained in farmed or wild-caught fish. The levels of heavy metals (iron, arsenic, cadmium, lead, mercury, copper) and other pollutants (DDE, DDT, HCB) are certified as being below the detection threshold. In particular, the levels of PCBs detected in batches of CARDIOM3 are less than or equal to 90 µg/kg, i.e. more than twenty times lower than the levels established by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) (2000 µg/kg), and more than ten times lower than the WHO standard (1000 µg/kg). Likewise, the level of dioxin is less than 2 picogTEQ/g, which is in line with European legislation.
This guarantee of purity is essential for a natural product derived from the sea, in view of the frequency of contamination of marine products.

Dose
The recommended initial dose of CARDIOM3 is 3 capsules per day, providing a daily amount of 1050mg (1.05g) of DHA and 350mg of EPA corresponding to a total of 1.5g of omega-3 per day (60 caps per box).

Taking the capsules
It is recommended that the CARDIOM3 capsules be taken either at the start of a meal or at night when going to bed, to avoid the possibility of a fishy aftertaste. However, the capsules may be taken either in a single dose or divided into several doses taken during the day, according to your preference.
Length of course
Scientific studies on the uptake of essential fatty acids into cell membranes suggest that it takes around three months to compensate for a deficiency of omega-3 fatty acids and completely renew the tissues.
In fact, our metabolism is so greedy for these essential fatty acids that it utilizes them instantly and they are immediately detectable in blood samples. This does not mean that each of our cells down to the deepest parts of our heart or brain is really recharged. Regularly long-term supplementation with CARDIOM3 is an effective way of ensuring the optimal daily intake of omega-3 recommended by cardiologists.
Medical experts on nutrition, as well as the regulatory body of the US Government, the Food and Drug Administration, have declared that doses of omega-3 of up to 3g per day are "generally considered safe" (8g per day for the panel of experts set up by the American Heart Association and published in a major cardiology journal, Circulation).
As a reminder, the daily dose of three capsules of CARDIOM3 corresponds to 1.5 grammes of omega-3.
Precautions
The most common side-effect of omega-3 supplements is a fishy aftertaste.
Certain people may notice a temporary acceleration of their bowel movements and will evacuate stool more than once per day. In rare cases, during the first week of taking omega-3, the stool becomes soft or even liquid. If this occurs, you should simply reduce the dose for a week or two and then try the stronger dose again to see if you now tolerate it.
If you have to undergo an operation, inform your doctor that you are taking this food supplement.
When shouldn't you take CARDIOM3 ?
CARDIOM3 is not recommended for people with an allergy to fish, shellfish or other products from the sea.
Those suffering from disorders of the pancreas (congenital deformities of the pancreas, chronic or acute pancreatitis) should avoid the consumption of fats in general. In such cases, taking CARDIOM3, as well as any other food supplemented based on essential fatty acids, is therefore not recommended.
Pregnant women, breastfeeding women, and children may only use this supplement after consulting their doctor.
